Summary

Over 1000 farmers from 10 villages in Madhya Pradesh have been protesting against the Indore Development Authority's plan to construct Ahilya Path, a 15 kilometre long road from Rinjlay village to Revati village at an estimated cost of Rs 400 crore.

In October 2024, farmers staged protests against the land acquisition for this project. The project requires the acquisition of 1,179 hectare of agricultural land from these 10 villages. In return, farmers are being offered 50% developed plots. However, farmers are unwilling to part with their fertile land and argue that the proposed compensation is inadequate.

Farmers alleged that the Indore Development Authority (IDA) has been colluding with builders to rush into finalising the project, with inadequate compensation being offered to the farmers and no clarity on time frames or terms of payment.

The IDA intends to complete the development process over the next three to four years.

To register their objections, farmers also met with Urban Development Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya, who directed IDA officials to hold discussions with the farmers to address their grievances. However, no resolution has been reached so far.

The farmers demanded the cancellation of the project and vowed to intensify the protest if their demands remain unmet.
