The Kakatiya Mega Textile Park in Warangal district, a project proposed by the Telangana government, is expected to potentially provide direct employment to 13,000 people. The park will have ginning, spinning, weaving and dyeing units all at one place. The state had acquired 1,190 acres of land from 731 families for the project for a compensation of INR 87.78 crore. As officials resorted to Government Order (GO) 123 to acquire land, the people in the villages demanded that the government follow procedures and provisions of the Land Acquisition Act of 2013, which mandates public consent and fair compensation. Eventually, according to the villagers, promises of employment to one per family, 100 yards of land for constructing houses and financial assistance of INR 50,000 were made, and according to the government, land was acquired with the villagers' consent. None of the promises materialised. In June 2019, seeing that the government was a year behind in finishing the project, farmers went back to the lands they had surrendered and began sowing seeds, indifferent to the fact that they were now project lands. Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation Limited (TSIIC) had to rush to the police and involve the village secretaries to stop the sowing process. TSIIC warned the farmers of prosecution if this were to repeat again. Contrary to the claims of the village residents, the TSIIC officials argued that compensation had been paid to those who gave up their lands, and an additional 40 acres of land had been allocated for the construction of houses for them. They contended that the residents have been unfairly increasing their compensation demands. Officials claim that the process of land acquisition is complete and have moved on to the process of developing infrastructure. In February 2021, the government allotted 300 acres of textile park lands to two companies.
