Summary

A land dispute has arisen near the revered Churi Mataji temple in Chur village of Jamjodhpur taluka, where villagers protested the installation of a windmill they claim is threatening the local ecosystem. The temple, a site of religious significance, is surrounded by a rich landscape of tall trees, wildlife, and birds, making it a popular spot for visitors, especially during the monsoon season. The area is home to an estimated 1,000 peacocks, along with Nilgai and other wildlife species.

Villagers had expressed outrage over the windmill’s construction, which they say has disrupted the tranquility of the region. According to local reports, blasting during the windmill’s installation allegedly caused the deaths of several peacocks and other birds as reported by the ETV. Residents argued that the noise and activity from the windmill is damaging the ecosystem, posing a threat to the wildlife that has thrived in the area for years.

The villagers also created a ruckus over the installation of unauthorised electricity pole for the windmill in the pasture land.

Adding to the controversy is the claim that the windmill was approved without the consultation of the Gram Panchayat, fuelling accusations of negligence. Villagers demanded that the windmill be relocated to prevent further harm to the environment and preserve the natural beauty and ecological balance of the region.

The researcher filed an RTI request seeking details of the protest. However, the Mamlatdar of Jamjodhpur stated that the government has not allocated any land for the project and no separate register is maintained for such complaints, therefore, the requested information could not be provided.
