New Launch: Renewable Energy Land Conflict Database

📢 We’re excited to announce the launch of our Database of Renewable Energy Land-Use Conflicts!

As India leads the global shift toward clean energy, it’s vital to ensure that the growth of renewable infrastructure is not just fast but also fair, inclusive, and socially sustainable. To support that goal, Land Conflict Watch is pleased to launch the Renewable Energy Conflict Database, India’s first dedicated repository of socio-environmental challenges emerging from utility-scale RE projects.

Why we believe this database matters?

We have developed this work over three years bringing together verified information from media reports, court records, and independent field research. Each conflict is mapped across 100+ qualitative and quantitative indicators, including land tenure, legal processes, community concerns, and project outcomes.

📍Over  conflicts documented and counting
📍  people affected across  hectares
📍  of RE capacity impacted—7.3 GW** stalled

This platform is designed as a tool for policymakers, planners, and developers to help identify risk factors early, respond to local concerns, and enable more durable, community-aligned clean energy investments.

What else is on the page?

📘 An interim report analysing early patterns and lessons
👀 A sneak peek into our upcoming study into community’ perspectives on RE projects in collaboration with Queen Mary University of London
📚 Detailed case studies to inform future RE land-use planning

🔔 Call to Action

If you’re working in a region where RE-related land challenges are emerging, we invite you to share it via form on the webpage. Our research team will work to verify and document them, ensuring these voices inform future planning.

Together, we believe we can shape India’s energy transition to be not only green but grounded.
