Uttar Pradesh irrigation department is building Bhaunrt Dam on Jamani river in Mehroni Tehsil of Lalitpur. It is located 20 kms down the Jamani Dam. The irrigation department aims to irrigate 16,000 hectares of farm land with the new dam. When the project started in 200809, 450 acres of land was acquired from six villages of the region. Only a few farmers received the compensation at the price rate of 80,000 to 1 lakh per acres. Other farmers who have not been paid the compensation are now going from office to office demanding their money. Farmers are saying that the department is delaying the payment because it does not want to pay the compensation at current prices, which are higher.
