Indian Railways is building NadikudiSrikalahasti railway line. This line falls under the administration of Guntur and Guntakal railway divisions of South Central Railway zone in Andhra Pradesh. The project connects New DelhiChennai main railway line at Nadikudi of Guntur district to GudurKatpadi railway line at Srikalahasti of Chittoor district. It will cost 2,452 crore to build this section of 308 km. However, farmers in all the major four districts Guntur, Prakasham, Nellore and Chittoor this railway line will cross are divided about whether or not to give away their land for this project. Those who are opposing say that their land is highly fertile and they grow two crops a year. They are also unhappy about the compensation that is being offered to them. Farmers have staged dharnas to protest. Land Conflict Watch researcher has spoken to farmers present in the protests.
